Patty Murray

Patty Murray was born in Washington State in the city of Bothell, where her father owned a five and ten cent shop. She graduated from Washington State University, gaining a degree in physical education. She went on to teach preschool and a parenting class. Murray began her political career in 1992, when she became the first woman senator for the state of Washington. Currently, she holds the Senate Majority Conference Secretary, is a senior member of the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations, the chair of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies, and in 2001 until 2003 she was the chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Murray also holds positions on the following committees; Veterans’ Affairs, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Budget, Rules and Administration, and Printing. She takes a strong stance on immigration, global trade exchange, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
